Secret In Their Eyes tells the story of a tight-knit team of rising investigators, along with their supervisor, that’s suddenly torn apart when they discover that one of their own teenage daughters has been brutally murdered.
This film is another example of why a star studded cast would want to be involved in such a poor remake of the Academy Award winning best foreign language film? El Secreto De Sus Ojos should’ve been left untouched as it was an example of a compelling mystery-thriller but unfortunately, someone thought it was a good idea to remake it into English. Foreign language remakes into English have never done well, with other examples such as Dinner For Schmucks and Oldboy becoming cringeworthy cinema.
The initial story seems fascinating but came off as uninspired and often mishandled in the large time frame given, with an overacted performance from Chiwetel Ejiofor and is unfortunately the most memorable part of the production while Nicole Kidman is forgettable and horribly miscast as she’s unable to really fulfil the position of her character.
Secrets In Their Eyes lacks the gritty realism and emotional of the original Spanish-language film to connect us to the film. It could’ve been so much more but ultimately failed to do so.
